Sustainability
It is our company policy to use, wherever practicable, products that produce low CO2 emissions when manufactured.
Whatever the project we will always seek ways of reducing waste, double handling and minimising deliveries.
When projects have multiple specifications we try to find a manufacturer that covers all of the generic specifications. This allows ‘one stop shopping’ thus reducing CO2 emissions from multiple supplier deliveries.
We monitor our own CO2 emissions including car and air travel, heating and lighting our office facility.
Given a formula to work out our CO2 emissions, by the Carbon Neutral Company, we calculated that for our financial year 2005/06 we needed to offset our emissions by planting 138 trees.
We searched for a suitable site and chose the Forest of Marston Vale.
The Marston Vale Trust is the registered charity of the Forest of Marston Vale.
They are creating a forest between Bedford and Milton Keynes that has previously had its landscape scarred by decades of clay extraction, brick making and landfill.
In February 2007 we took to the fields and planted 150 trees in oak, ash, cherry, field maple and silver birch.
This is just part of a multi-million tree planting being carried out in the Vale.
All the office staff took part and enjoyed it so much they are looking forward to doing it again next year, with hopefully less trees, since we will have reduced our carbon footprint.

In all our activities we attempt to minimise our contribution to global warming.
We will only use timber that has a documented ‘chain of custody’ this will help prevent deforestation.
All our vehicles run on BP Optimum fuel to help cleaner exhaust emissions.
Reducing waste material on site is one of our current ongoing quests. We are developing a pallet that will allow carpet tiles to be delivered to sites without being boxed. Our design will allow shrink wrapping of tiles to the pallet thus saving many visits to sites by skip hauliers.
On major projects we have asked Vinyl flooring suppliers to put their own skips on site so that waste product can be taken back to the factory for re-cycling.
